While we're on the subject of obituaries....
A moment of silence, please, for my dear departed computer, which expired the day after Christmas. It had been running poorly for days before that, which made posting here unadvisable--a shame, since I had something special planned for Christmas Day (which would be a bit anticlimactic now--better to wait until next Christmas).
It's only appropriate, therefore, that the new year for me should begin with a brand-new system, which gives me the ability to do screen captures. No benefit to poor Kevin, obviously, but that will likely liven up the look of the blog for the rest of you.
I've been dying to play with graphics a bit since I started this blog, and a Cartoon Brew post from December 19th gave me the excuse to do so. (Scroll down past the entry about Kaj Pindal).
You see, even the venerable Archie Comics has had to bow to the inevitable and update its look--much to my chagrin. Practically from the time I could read comics, Dan DeCarlo's flawless, deceptively simple drawing style mesmerized me--if I could not syndicate my own strip, I always believed, I could at least try to emulate that wonderful style and submit material to Archie. Chalk up one more failed dream....
But I thought the folks here might want to see I could indeed draw in that style. The image above is a model sheet for a character I created named Chelsea, which was my attempt to introduce a disabled character to the Archie gang. Unfortunately, the folks at Archie comics never saw it--and in all likelihood, they never will. Even if I could learn the new style, it doesn't quite "grab" me and hold my fascination the way Dan's drawings did.
Sometimes I wonder if "new" is indeed better...
